Bikes Without Borders

Bikes Without Borders (BWB) is a Toronto-based non-profit organization using bicycles and bicycle-related solutions as a tool for development and social change. While bicycles for many in the developed world represent freedom in a recreational sense, for millions of people in the developing world a bicycle can represent a different kind of freedom: freedom from poverty and marginalization. For these people a bicycle can mean the difference between life and death, between poverty and abundance.

Southern Ontario Nut Farm

To buy a parcel of land in Southern Ontario for the purpose of starting a nut farm.

It is a long term project requiring a few years to enable the trees to become productive.

Nut trees indigenous to Southern Ontario would be sourced from local nurseries, purchased and planted on the land.

The land need not be rich in earth, in the sense a potato farm or grape farm needs rich earth. It needs only soil, water, climate and sun sufficient for growing nut trees.

Sustainability un-University + GreenPIVOT

Sustainability un-University is fueled by the belief that the expertise and resources required to meet carbon reduction goals already exist within our community; the gap that we see results from an inability to connect knowledge seekers with knowledge holders in a way that facilitates meaningful learning. This project fills this gap with an affordable, convenient, simple, learner-oriented online platform that empowers teachers and students. It blends the rigour of the ivory tower with DIY entrepreneurialism, while acting as a springboard for discussion, advocacy, and innovation.

Race to Reduce - The Smart Energy Office Challenge

The Race to Reduce smart energy office challenge is an innovative project that challenges the Toronto region’s office building landlords and tenants to publicly commit to work together to collectively reduce energy use by at least 10 per cent over four years.  This friendly corporate challenge is unique in that it encourages measureable energy reductions through the collaborative efforts of those that are often seen as competitors, and provides the platform and tools to do so.

waste2wonder: Realizing the Potential of Waste

Every year, thousands of tons of office furniture, IT equipment, and supplies are thrown into landfill simply because there are few other options.  The U.S. EPA estimates that over 3 million tons of office furniture and furnishings are discarded yearly.  Often, the disposed items are merely “dated” or show some wear and tear but are nowhere near the end of its useful lifecycle.
